Plaza de Armas: This historical site was the heart of the city till the XX century. Municipal Palace: Built between 1949 and 1952, the Municipal Palace was designed by Vicente Mendiola who provided the palace with its portals, corridors, arches, Toscana columns and a central patio. The pre-dominant feature of this palace is its typical neoclassical style.

Passport & Visa Requirements

All nationals intending to visit Guadalajara must possess a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Exception being the nationals of South Africa who need a passport that is valid for at least one year.

Nationals of US, UK, Canada, Australia and South Africa who are in possession of tourist card or FMT form do not need a visa for stays of up to 180 days in Mexico. The tourist car or FMT form is issued free of cost by the airlines.

When to visit Guadalajara

With warm days and reasonable humidity, summer season is a great time to visit Guadalajara. Rain is unheard of during February and March, whereas quite infrequent during the rainy season that begins in November and ends in May. However, the rains only tend to refresh the overall climate, making this season a good time to visit the city. Avoid August and September if one can as hurricanes and tropical storms are frequent during these months.

Owing to its elevated situation, Guadalajara enjoys a mild and spring-like climate all through the year. April and May are the hottest months when the temperature reaches as high as 35 degree Celsius. The coldest months of December and January experience mild days but bitter cold nights. The temperatures in winter hover in the range of 25-5 degree Celsius.

Currency and Language

Currency:The official currency of Mexico is the Mexico Peso. Foreign currency can be easily exchanged in the city, especially US Dollars and Euro. Most commercial establishments, hotels, restaurants and shops accept credit cards. Still, it would be wiser to carry along some local currency to take care of minor expenses.

Language:Spanish, the native language of Mexico, is spoken by the majority of the population. English too is spoken by the locals in varying degrees.
