Nationals of Britain, Australia, Canada, USA and other EU nations do not require a visa to enter into Guyana for stay of up to 90 days. Exceptions include the nationals of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Cyprus, Hungary, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, Slovak Republic, Poland and Slovenia who do require a visa. Visas to Georgetown, Guyana are usually valid till three months from the date of issue.

Extensions are at the discretion of the Immigration Office.

When to visit Georgetown

Most travelers to Georgetown visit during the dry months from mid January to mid April, and between August and October. It is best to avoid the two major rainy seasons in the city, between May and mid-August and between mid-November and mid-January.

The coolest month in the city is February with the average temperature falling in the range of 29 and 23 degree Celsius. Currency and Language

Currency:The official currency of Georgetown is the Guyanese Dollar. Foreign currency can be exchanged at major banks and foreign exchange bureaus in the city. Travelers can also exchange currency at the airport though the rate offered there might not be the best.

Language:The official language of Georgetown, Guyana is English. The Guyanese Creole is one of the most widely spoken languages in the country. Caribbean languages like Wai-Wai, Akawaio, Arawak and Macushi are also spoken by the minority.
