Tripoli (TIP) has a magnificent archeological history which is evident through its various castles, mosques, museums and hotels. The Assaraya al-Hamara (Red Castle), is a vast palace complex with copious courtyards is situated on the suburbs of the medina. The Castle is swarmed with some glorious statues and fountains from the Ottoman era. The Gurgi and Karamanli mosques have in store the most exquisite decorations and tilework. Apart from a panorama view of the city from the Hotel Al Kabir (Grand Hotel), the city is a repository of fine jewellery and clothes. The Jamahiriya museum houses many artifacts from the country?s Roman and Greek epoch.
